Where We Work

Artist Giving Back Headed to Lesvos, Greece in September

[ 9/7/2023 ] Artists Giving Back is headed to Lesvos, Greece in September 2023 to offer healing through the vehicle of art. We are pleased to be partnering with a local NGO in Greece. Lesvos Solidarity offers shelter, legal, medical, and psycho-social support as well as job training to the refugee community. Greece hosts over 186,000 refugees and asylum-seekers. This includes over 5000 unaccompanied children. Most persons of concern come from Afghanistan, the Syrian Arab Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Iran. These populations spend years in some of the worst refugee camps in the world waiting for approval of asylum status. AGB is committed to building community, returning dignity, and creating hope for refugee populations through our art programming. We will be working towards upcycling the lifeboats and life jackets that the refugees use to make the dangerous journey to Greece and now sit on the beaches of Lesvos. AGB artists and volunteers will upcycle these items into an art piece as a fundraiser for our organization and Lesvos Solidarity. AGB will be on location from September 15th through September 28th. This will be an ongoing project into 2024. - Suzanne Horwich, Founder
